Coming of age

Does growing up have to mean losing something? Why is that every show or movie that deals with 'coming-of-age' always ends up with the person having to deal with some kind of loss? Why is it that we have to accept the fact that we must deal with whatever might be taken away from us just because we have to 'grow up'? But having to grow up, isn't our choice to make in the first place isn't it.

Yes I think it's unfair, and it's also naive of me to want to believe that having to grow up doesn't mean having to lose a part of you, something that you treasure. It is naive, but having to accept whatever warped theory the world throws at you makes it too sad. That you wouldn't even try and fight for what you lost, that you wouldn't feel half the pain you would if you had not let it go. That the things you've lost, is now truly gone - because you did not fight back for it.

Who said that letting go should be the only way to deal with losing something dear to you?

Don't let it become a habit.
Or you'll find that sooner or later, you'll only be able to look back and wonder if things would have been different if only you tried.

Don't.
